WEST POINT, N.Y.  - Fourteen home games, including Air Force and Providence, non-conference games at Penn State, Merrimack, Boston College and the Royal Military College and 27 Atlantic Hockey Association games highlight the 2013-14 Army hockey schedule.

Army will play three teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament in Canisius, Niagara and Boston College and will open the campaign with the annual Black vs. Gold Game on Oct. 5.

The Black Knights will have one of the youngest teams in the country in 2013-14 with at least 23 freshmen and sophomores on the roster.

"This will be a challenge, no doubt about that," said ninth-year Army hockey head coach Brian Riley. "We open with two non-conference games against very good teams and then get right in league play. As we have learned year after year, any team can win in any given night in college hockey. Our schedule will test our young roster and that experience will be invaluable when the playoffs roll around in March."

Season tickets and groups of 10 or more for the 2013-14 season will go on sale July 16. Mini-plans will be offered beginning August 20 and single-game tickets will be on sale Sept. 17.

Army opens the season at Penn State in the first game at the Pegula Ice Arena on Oct. 11. The 200,000-square foot facility seats 6,000 and was included in a $102 million gift from Terrence M. and Kim Pegula to help elevate hockey to the Division I level at Penn State.

The next weekend, Army plays at Merrimack on Oct. 26, a Saturday night contest in North Andover, Mass.

The Black Knights begin league play in November with three straight games, beginning with a trip to Connecticut and new head coach Mike Cavanaugh on Nov. 1.

Army will play the first of 14 games at Tate Rink on Nov. 2 against Bentley before hosting Holy Cross on Nov. 8.

The Black Knights will make the trek to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to play five-time national champion Boston College on Sunday, Nov. 10. Hobey Hat Trick finalist Johnny Gaudreau is among the expected returnees for the Eagles, who have played in the Frozen Four on 23 occasions. Last year, B.C. fell to Union in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament.

Army will then head to Niagara Falls for a two-game series at NCAA qualifier Niagara on Nov. 15 and 16.

Sacred Heart is the third home game of the season on Nov. 22. Army then plays at Sacred Heart Nov. 23 and at American International on Nov. 26.

Army will return to Tate Rink three times in December. In addition to a Dec. 6 and 7 series against NCAA qualifier Canisius, Army will also host Providence on Dec. 20. Army concludes its season series with Sacred Heart Dec. 14 in Fairfield, Conn.

The Black Knights are home for four consecutive games in 2014. First, Mercyhurst is at Tate Rink on Jan. 3 and 4 before service academy rival Air Force visits Jan. 10 and 11.

Army will travel to RIT on Jan. 17 and 18 and then play at RMC on Jan. 25, in Kingston, Ontario, in an exhibition contest.

Army will continue its season-long six-game road trip at Robert Morris (Jan. 31, Feb. 1) and at AIC on Feb. 7.

Army closes out its series against AIC at Tate Rink on Feb. 8 and hosts Bentley Feb. 14.

The Black Knights will play at Bentley Feb. 15 and at Connecticut on Feb. 21 before hosting Connecticut on Feb. 22.

Army will conclude the regular season with a series against Holy Cross. The Feb. 28 game is in Worcester, Mass., while Army will honor its seniors on March 1.

The Atlantic Hockey Association playoffs will begin March 7 with a first-round series, followed by the quarterfinals beginning March 14.

The Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y., will host the semifinals March 21 and the championship game March 22.

The NCAA will announce selections for the tournament on March 23 with regionals to be held March 28-30 in Worcester, Mass., Bridgeport, Conn., Cincinnati, Ohio and St. Paul, Minn.

The Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia will host the Frozen Four April 10 and 12.
