Holy Cross Tops Army, 3-2

WORCESTER, Mass. - Holy Cross scored two power play goals in the final 3:39 of the game to come from behind and defeat visiting Army, 3-2, Friday night at Hart Center in Worcester, Mass. The win improves the Crusaders to 5-5-3 overall and 2-2-2 in Atlantic Hockey. Army falls to 4-8-2 and 1-6-2 in the league.

Pierre Napert-Frenette notched the game-winner with 1:23 to go. His power play goal followed that of Tanner Fogarty's game-tying marker with 3:39 left.

Justin Fagan scored 4:31 into the final period with a slapshot from the left point while on the power play to tie the game 1-1. The senior defenseman's blast made it through a number of players and past a screened Tony Quesada for the Black Knights' first tally of the night.
 

 

Michael Picone then converted a Holy Cross turnover along the near wall into a goal, lighting the lamp with 7:47 left in the contest and giving the visitors their only lead of the game.

Andrew McKay had given the hosts a 1-0 lead in the middle frame, beating Army goalie Treye Kettwick low to the glove side while the two teams were skating four aside.

The two teams played a scoreless first period with Army netminder Treye Kettwick recording nine saves. The Black Knights killed off 1:05 of a 5-on-3 advantage in the opening frame. Both teams failed to score on two power play opportunities each in the first period.

For the night, Army was 1-for-4 with a man advantage and Holy Cross was 2-for-7.

Kettwick made 30 saves for the Black Knights. Quesada stopped 10 shots for the Crusaders. Chad Fifield assisted on both of Army's third-period markers.

Army continues its weekend road trip to close out the first semester Saturday night against the UConn Huskies in Storrs, Conn. Faceoff is set for 7:05 p.m.
