Sacred Heart Rallies Past Army, 6-5

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Sacred Heart scored the go-ahead goal on the power play with 2:12 remaining to complete a 6-5 come-from-behind win over Army in the first game of a home-and-home series on Friday night at Tate Rink. The teams meet again tomorrow at 7:05 p.m. at Danbury Ice Arena in Danbury, Conn.

The Black Knights took control early and established a 3-0 lead midway through the first period. The Pioneers, however, netted six of the next eight goals to steal the Atlantic Hockey Association road victory. All three of the third-period goals belonged to Sacred Heart, including back-to-back power play tallies at 11:46 and 17:48.

Four Army (1-9-0, 1-6-0 AHA) players scored goals in the setback, led by junior alternate captain Josh Richards with a career-best two tallies. Classmates Mac Lalor and Zak Zaremba, along with sophomore Joe Kozlak, all found the back of the net for the Black Knights. Brian Schultz, Christian Pomarico, Willie Faust, Clint Carlisle, Maurice Alvarez, Than Heller, Connor Costello and Shane Hearn each came away with one assist.

Sacred Heart (3-8-0, 2-3-0) held a slight 38-32 lead in shots. The Pioneers, who had six players score single goals, outshot Army 16-9 in the third period.

Army junior goaltender Rob Tadazak made 32 saves in his ninth start of the season, while the Pioneers utilized starter Alex Vazzano and Andrew Bodnarchuk. The pair combined for 27 stops.

After both teams skated eight-plus minutes scoreless to open the contest. The Black Knights got hot, scoring a trio of goals in less than two minutes to establish an early 3-0 edge. Zaremba deflected the puck in past Vazzano at 8:45 to get things going, while Kozlak buried a rebound shot and Richards netted his first of the season. Sacred Heart, which switched goalies after the Black Knights' third goal, proceeded to score short-handed with 3:33 remaining in the opening stanza to bring the Pioneers within 3-1 at intermission.

Sacred Heart wasted little time making it a one-goal game, as Daniel Lisi netted his first of the year just 41 seconds into the action. The Pioneers leveled the score, 3-3, at the 8:53 mark of the frame as Jake Lynes notched his first of the season The Black Knights countered with consecutive goals to end the period, beginning with Heller's faceoff win and ensuing feed to Richards for his second of the game at 15:20. Ten seconds later, Lalor registered his second goal of the season on assists from Costello and Hearn. Army's 5-3 lead stood at the end of the second period.

Sacred Heart took over in the third period, netting single goals from Mitch Nylen, Will Rayner and Drew George over the final 13 minutes of the contest to steal its second conference win.
