WEST POINT, N.Y. - Bentley scored three times in the final period, including twice on the power play, to defeat Army, 4-1, Saturday evening in an Atlantic Hockey Association game at Tate Rink.
The Black Knights and Falcons were knotted at 1 entering the third period and Bentley took advantage of power play opportunities and stayed among the league leaders.
Army held a 41-38 advantage in shots on goal and Ryan Leetsmade 34 saves but the Black Knights fell to 1-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in league games.
Bentley has now won two consecutive games and improved to 5-5-0 overall and 4-1- 0 in league games.
Bryant Skarda scored Army's goal in the first period off of an assist from Mac Laloras Army came out firing in its gold jerseys.
Army, playing at home for the first time since Oct. 14, a span of six games, held an early advantage in shots, 6-2, and had a power play but Bentley struck first as Jared Rickord notched his second of the season.
The Black Knights knotted the game five minutes later with a power play score. Skarda won a faceoff and then passed it back and forth with Lalor before Skarda went high for his first goal of the season. It was Lalor's first collegiate point on the assist.
Army out-shot Bentley 15-13 in the second period as well and each team had a pair of power play chances but the score remained knotted at 1 after two periods.
The Falcons went on top to stay as Matt Maher netted a power play score. Two goals in two minutes closed the scoring as Alex Kubiak and Justin Breton notched scores. Breton's scored Bentley's second power play goal of the game.
Army will play another split weekend, traveling to AIC on Friday and hosting Brown in a non-conference game Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Tate Rink.
GAME NOTES: Army's starting lineup consisted of Mike Henderson, Mike Hull and Mark Dube with the Alvarez brothers, Marcel and Maurice, on defense. Ryan Leets got the start in goal ... Army wore its gold sweaters and now has worn four jerseys this season, white, black, gray and gold ... Army's head Officer Representative Col. Ed Naessens was behind the bench ... The New York City Cyclones pee wee hockey team was among the crowd ... Army Director of Hockey Operations Tom Doran went sprinting off the bench in the second period to cross grind and re-sharpened Mike Hull'sskate when Hull badly lost an edge.
