WEST POINT, N.Y. - Matt Gingera scored a pair of goals as Sacred Heart beat Army, 5-3, Saturday night in an Atlantic Hockey Association in front of a sold out crowd of 2,527 fans at Tate Rink.

Army honored its large senior class prior to the game and tried to mount a comeback in the third period but fell short despite 15 shots on goal in the last stanza.

Army senior Pat Ryan, one of 11 seniors on the team, scored his first collegiate goal in the final period while Zak Zaremba and Andy Starczewski scored goals. Danny Colvin had a pair of assists and Mac Lalor, John Clark and Marcel Alvarez collected single assists.

Sacred Heart improved to 5-26-3 overall and 4-20-2 in league games and clinched the 11th seed in next weekend's league playoffs.

Army ended the regular season at 4-21-7 overall and 3-19-5 in league contests and will be the 12th seed in the playoffs. Army will travel to Holy Cross for the best-of-three first-round series beginning Friday.

Sacred Heart opened the scoring midway through the first period when Matt Gingera registered his 13th goal of the season.

Army quickly answered when Starczewski converted a pass from Colvin for his team-leading 12th goal of the season just a minute after the Sacred Heart tally. Colvin increased his assist total to 14 for the season while Clark started the play and picked up his second assist this year.

Sacred Heart scored three goals in the second period and led 4-2 after 40 minutes.

Anthony Yelovich scored on the power play just 1:38 into the session for Sacred Heart's first lead of the game, 2-1.

Five minutes later, Zaremba tied the game for a second time, scoring his second goal in as many nights off  a Colvin feed. It was Zaremba's fifth goal of the season and the second game in a row that Colvin collected multiple points. Lalor also registered an assist on the play as well, his fifth of the season.

The Pioneers went back on top a minute later when Eric DeLong scored a short-handed tally.

Sacred Heart made it a 4-2 game when Gingera scored his second of the game at the 15:20 mark.

The Pioneers increased their advantage to three goals late in the game when Army pulled its goalie and the Pioneers' Eric Delong netted an empty net goal.

Army closed the scoring when Ryan knocked home his first collegiate goal with just 19 seconds left. Classmate Marcel Alvarez posted the assist.

Army and Sacred Heart finished in a tie for 11th in the final league standings but Sacred Heart won the tiebreaker by winning the season series 2-1.
