WEST POINT, N.Y.  - Adam Mitchell scored two goals and then RIT held off a furious Army rally to post a 4-2 victory over the Black Knights, Saturday night in an Atlantic Hockey Association game at a sold-out Tate Rink.

Army fell behind 2-0, rallied to get within a goal and then posted 10 shots in the final period but fell to 7-12-3 overall and 7-7-3 in league games.

RIT added an empty net tally to secure the victory and improve to 8-10-4 overall and 6-6-3.

Josh Richards and Joe Kozlak scored goals for the Black Knights while Cheyne Rocha and Willie Faust collected assists.

Army goalie Ryan Leets made 36 saves while RIT's Josh Watson turned away 21 shots.

More than 2,680 fans were on hand for a physical, well-played game that included just two penalties by each team. RIT scored a power play, empty-net tally after an elbowing whistle with under two minutes to play.

RIT scored the game's first goal for the second consecutive night. Midway through the opening period, Mitchell struck from in front of the net for this seventh goal of the season.

The Tigers extended their lead to 2-0 with 5:25 remaining in the opening period when Mitchell collected his second goal.

Richards cut Army's deficit in half and extended his point scoring streak to three games with his fifth goal of the season. Rocha slid a nice pass across ice to Richards who scored on the backhand as Rocha collected his third assist of the season 88 seconds into the second period.

RIT again went back on top by two goals when Army failed to clear the puck and Jeff Smith netted his ninth goal of the season five minutes into the second period.

Kozlak answered for Army, netting his fifth goal of the season with a wraparound score. Faust sent a long pass up the boards and behind the net and picked up the assist, his sixth of the year to make it a 3-2 game midway through the second session.

Army entered the final period trailing by a goal and had three shots on goal early in the session.

Each team had a power play opportunity and RIT held its 3-2 lead.

Army was whistled for elbowing at the 18:12 mark and was forced to pull its goalie to try and tie the game and RIT took advantage and netted an empty net tally.

Army will host Canadian rival Royal Military College in an exhibition game on Jan. 26. That game has been announced as a sell-out. Army will return to Tate Rink for an AHA game against AIC on Feb. 8.
