Air Force Tops Army Hockey, 5-2

Jan. 14, 2005

Box Score

USAFA, Colo. - Matt Bader scored two goals and Josh Print, Brandon Merkosky and Andrew Ramsey added markers leading Air Force to a 5-2 win over visiting Army in front of a national television audience watching on CSTV Friday night.

Air Force extended its lead in the overall series to 22-15-2. The Falcons (10-9-2) put an end to its four-game losing streak, while Army (6-11-2) lost for the first time in Colorado since 2001.

Air Force, which was 3-for-7 on the power play, blew open a 2-0 contest with three goals in four and one-half minutes in the final period. Print, Merkosky and Bader each tallied with the man advantage. Merkosky's tally came with four seconds remaining on a full two-minute five-on-three for the Falcons. Army was 0-for-4, mustering just two shots on its four power play opportunities.

Treye Kettwick made 41 saves, one off his career high, as he did his part to keep the Black Knights in the contest all night. It marked the sixth time this season that the sophomore netminder eclipsed 30 saves in a game and is the second time he has been credited with at least 40 stops.

Brad Howard spoiled the shutout at the 12:42 mark of the final period. It was the first goal Foster surrendered to Army in 128 minutes 47 seconds of play dating back to last year. David Andros scored his career-high fourth goal of the season at 15:25 to close out the scoring.

Army and Air Force will go at it again Saturday night in a 9:05 p.m. Eastern start at the Cadet Ice Arena in Colorado Springs, Colo.
