WEST POINT, N.Y. -
Freshman Chris Short was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) "Gymnast of the Week" for his performance at the Army-Navy meet last weekend.
Short garnered his first collegiate win after beating the field on parallel bars behind a season-high 14.7 in helping Army to a 414.0-407.05 decision over Navy for the Black Knights' first dual win over the Midshipmen since 2010.
The freshman from Vancouver, Wash., played a key role as Army posted a season high on parallel bars en route to outpointing Navy (69.5-67.7) to increase its lead late in the meet.
Short competed for Multnomah Athletic Club, was a two-time Oregon State all-around champion and Junior Olympic qualifier during his prep school days.
Short is the third Black Knight to earn ECAC weekly honors, joining classmate Jesse Glenn and senior Garrek Hojan-Clark.
Currently ranked 49th nationally on parallel bars with a 14.067 average, Short lists sixth among the conference schools.
Army, in the midst of a four-match home stretch, returns to action this weekend hosting William & Mary in a key conference match Saturday, 3 p.m., at Gross Sports Center.
