We are leaving for Yale's home tournament tomorrow. So far we have had a really positive fall season, but it is far from over. We have the biggest district tournament of the fall coming up this weekend at Yale. The following weekend is the annual Star Match with Navy. The next two weeks will help determine what mindset we'll be taking into the off-season.
Last weekend we hosted our home tournament. We played solidly, but not well enough to win. The varsity team finished second by one stroke to Central Connecticut. Our Army Gold team finished fourth in the tournament. It was a good opportunity for all the guys on the team to get out there in a tournament atmosphere and put up some good numbers on our home course. We proved what we had been thinking all along - we are a very deep team. If this is a sign of things to come, then things are only looking up for us. If we can play mediocre and finish high in the standings, who knows what we can do if we are all playing well.
Every team in our district will be at Yale this weekend, including Rhode Island, which has won the district for at least the past five years. Last spring, we played the NCAA East Regional at Yale. We all know the course and what to expect, so hopefully we will play well and have a good finish. This will also help us next weekend against Navy. Yale's course is very 'old-school', and one that I really enjoy. I am looking forward to getting back there to see if we can do better than last spring. It is a very good test of golf, and a course on which you cannot let your guard down, or else the course will win.
Go Army Golf!
