Sept. 30, 2004

We just got back from Dallas and the Service Academy Classic. We played solid, but we didnt achieve our goal of winning. We finished second, but the gap is closing between Air Force and us. We made a run during the final round with two guys shooting under-par and the other three guys very close to par. Air Force was truly worried that they were going to lose their title until their #7 man came in with a two-under, 70. However, there were many bright spots about the tournament that we will take with us into our home tournament this weekend. Scott Manley, our captain, won the Service Academy Classic. Hopefully this is a sign that he will continue to play well and lead our team for the remainder of the fall. We shot a low final round when we needed it. This just goes to show that we can step up our game and post a low number when the pressure is on. And, finally, we beat Navy the first time that we saw them this year. It was great to beat Navy. Not only did we beat them, but also we did it by 21 strokes.

Once again the trip was a great experience. The alumni treated us very well, and it was a great privilege to meet them and talk about their experiences at West Point and in the Army. They are the type of graduates that I want to be. I just hope that during my career I am able to accomplish a fraction of what they have so successfully done in their careers.

This weekend is our home tournament. I am really looking forward to the tournament not only because we have a great shot at winning, but also because everyone gets to play this weekend. We will probably field three teams and some individuals because of the size of our team. Many of the top teams in the district will be here, just like at Central Connecticuts tournament two weeks ago. This is our opportunity to distance ourselves in the district rankings and give ourselves a solid lead heading to Yale next weekend and into the spring season. Another good thing about our home tournament is the fact that our course is different than any other course that I have ever seen before and that certainly gives us, if its possible, a home course advantage.

This weekend should be an exciting one for the entire team. All of our officer reps will be there. Professors and classmates will be out to watch us. If we put up scores like we did in team qualifying, we should have a good shot at winning our tournament, the Mulekicker Classic.
