WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Army golf team will host the Last Chance Classic, Sunday at West Point Golf Course.
The 36-hole event will begin at 8 a.m. at the par-70, 6,225 scenic course.
Sunday’s event is an individual tournament with no team prizes. In addition to the six Army golfers who will compete, players from Manhattan, Saint Peter’s and Lafayette will join the field.
Sunday’s tournament is part of a busy spring season for the Black Knights. Army tied for fifth at the Lafayette Invitational on Monday, six days after placing 10th at the Wildcat Invitational at White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa.
The Last Chance Classic offers one more opportunity for Army head coach Brian Watts to see his players in competition before the Patriot League Championships.
The Patriot League Championships are scheduled for April 27 and 28 at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa., with the winning team earning a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Senior Matt Philie, juniors Harrison Florence and Brandon Baerwaldt, sophomore Robby Hill and freshmen Marcus Plunkett and Brandon Roberts will compete for the Black Knights.
Philie has played 13 rounds this season with a 77 scoring average while Baerwaldt and Florence show 14 rounds played and scoring averages of 80. Hill has played 22 rounds with an 80 scoring average and one top-10 finish. Plunkett has a 76 scoring average in 22 rounds, including two top-10 finishes while Roberts has competed in 15 rounds with an 82 scoring average.
