WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army golf team will play its final event before the Patriot League Championships, this weekend at the Lafayette Spring Invitational in Pennsylvania.
The Black Knights have played three events this spring season and will compete in the 36-hole Lafayette Invitational at Center Valley Club, a par-72, 6,900-yard plus links style layout with hidden bunkers and mounds that guard fairways, narrow fairways and two lakes.
The 20-team tournament gets underway with 18 holes on Saturday, followed by an 18-hole final round on Sunday. In addition to Army, the field includes Binghamton, Bucknell, Colgate, Drexel, Fairleigh Dickinson, Fordham, Hofstra, Iona, La Salle, Lafayette, Lehigh, Manhattan, Monmouth, Robert Morris, Siena, St. Francis, St. Peter's, Villanova and Wagner
Army will send a team of five golfers and one individual for its fourth event of the spring season.
Senior captain James Raymond, juniors Wes Carver and Matt Krembel, sophomore Ethan Johnson and freshman Matt Philie will comprise the team while sophomore William Park will play as an individual.
Raymond, Krembel and Philie have played in all 18 rounds for the Black Knights this season. Krembel leads the team with a 75.6 scoring average while Philie is at 76.6 and Raymond at 78.7. Carver has competed in six events and averages a 78.6 per round while Park averages a 76.9. Johnson will be making his varsity debut.
Following the Lafayette Invitational, Army will shift its focus to winning a league title. The Patriot League Championships will be held April 24 and 25 in Hamilton, N.Y., with Colgate serving as the host team.
