WESTOVER, MD. - Senior Austin Luher of the Army men's golf team sits atop the leaderboard after the first round of the Drew Upton Golf Classic hosted by Towson University after a five-under par 67. Overall, the Black Knight golfers are tied for 11th out of 22 teams with a combined score of 296. The University of Richmond leads the field with a first-round tally of 283, 13 strokes ahead of the Black Knights.
Luher carded an outstanding round, posting a 33 on the front side and a 34 on the back for the five-under 67, his lowest score of the spring season.
Joey Cave is tied for 56th after an opening round 75 while Patrick Beverly and Jimmy Fisher each notched 77's good for a tie in 79th place. Sam Walenz registered a score of 80 in his first round.
The Black Knights wrap up competition at the Drew Upton Classic tomorrow morning.
