Army Golf Finishes 16th




GRASONVILLE, Md. During a long day of golf in wet, difficult conditions, the Army golf team finished 16th at the Towson Spring Invitational, Sunday at the par-72 Prospect Bay Country Club.

Golfers got an early start on Sunday in order to finish Saturday’s suspended second round and then played the final 18 holes at the 6,557-yard layout to complete the 54-hole event.

Kent State won the 17-team event with a three-round total of 853. John Hahn won the tournament with a 211 and teammates Mackenzie Hughes and Nick Latimer tied for second two strokes behind. William & Mary finished second (878), followed by Seton Hall (880), Delaware (889) and UNC Greensboro (891).

Army shot a 311 in the first round, a 310 in the two-day second round and concluded play with a 317 for a three-round total of 938.

Matt Krembel was the top Black Knight’s finisher with a 229 and a tie for 41st. Krembel opened with a one-over 73 and followed with rounds of 75-81. Sam Walenz finished two strokes behind with a 231 after rounds of 76-76-79 and a tie for 49th place.

Wes Carver shot a 236 for the weekend with rounds of 78-81-77 and finished in a tie for 67th while Adam Renfroe and Austin Rhymer tied for 78th with 246s. Renfroe shot 84-78-84 while Rhymer came in at 84-82-80.

Minou Pak, playing as an individual, shot a 247 with rounds of 88-78-81 to finish 81st.

Army will continue its spring season with the one-day Peacock Invitational April 14 in Neshanic Station, N.J. and the Mount St. Mary’s Invitational April 20-21 in Littlestown, Pa.
