SAPPHIRE, N.C. – Marcus Plunkett shot a one-over-par 72 as play began at the Hummingbird Intercollegiate, Saturday at the Country Club of Sapphire Valley.
Army shot a 302 during the first round of the 36-hole event that marks the end of the Black Knights’ fall season.
Samford leads the 13-team field by four strokes after a two-under-par 282. Belmont is second (286), followed by Wofford (292) and Francis Marion and Gardner-Webb (295).
Daley Byles of Gardner-Webb leads the event following a four-under-par 67, a stroke better than Cory Taylor of Wofford and Ashton Van Horne of Belmont.
Plunkett was one-over-par at the par-71, 6,767-yard layout and is tied for 13th.
Anthony Kim was two-over-par and is tied for 19th with a 73. Eric Peng shot a 78 and is tied for 50th, one stroke in front of Robby Hill who opened with a 79. Matt Philie shot an 80 and is tied for 65th.
The final round will begin with tee times at 9:00 a.m. Sunday.
