Army Off To Strong Start In Tennessee

JONESBOROUGH, Tenn.  - Anthony Kim and Marcus Plunkett are tied for fifth and Army is just one stroke over par as play began at the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate, Friday at Blackthorn Club.

Kim and Plunkett opened with two-under-par scores of 70 at the par-72, 7,147-yard layout. Rick Lamb of Tennessee and Grant Miller of Memphis lead the championship at five-under-par.

As a team, Army shot a 289 and is tied for seventh-place with Virginia Tech and UNC Wilmington. Tennessee and Memphis share the team lead with eight-under-par scores of 280.

The 10-team tournament will continue with 18 holes Saturday and Sunday.

Plunkett, a freshman playing in his second career tournament, fired his first under-par round while Kim, a junior, collected his 13th round of par or better.

Fellow freshman Eric Peng is tied for 50th with a +2 74 while classmate John Lee is a stroke behind and tied for 54th. Robby Hill is in 74th place after an 83.
