SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Army freshman golfer Peter Kim finished 1-over par on Thursday, carding a 73 in the opening round of the NCAA Regionals at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club.

Kim stands tied for third among 10 individual competitors at the San Antonio Regional, and is tied for 24th in a field of 75 golfers that includes 65 players competing with their respective teams.

Kim shot a bogey on two of his first three holes to begin the day, but found his way back to even-par after firing an eagle on the par-five fifth hole. Bogeys on holes six and seven dropped Kim back to 2-over par heading into the back nine.

The Metuchen, N.J., native recorded birdies on the 10th and 13th holes, while hitting a bogey on 12 to move to 1-over par through 13 holes. Kim reached par on the remaining five holes to finish with a 1-over 73 for the round, thanks to shooting a 1-under 35 on the back nine.

Kim will play the second of three 18-hole rounds tomorrow, as he continues to battle for the top individual finish to earn a spot in the NCAA Championships on May 23-28 in Hutchinson, Kan.
