BOCA RATON, Fla. - William Park tied for fourth as the Army golf team opened its spring season in a dual match against Florida Atlantic at the Polo Club of Boca Raton.
Florida Atlantic won the match 305-321 with the top three place-winners.
Eleven golfers competed for Florida Atlantic and seven for Army with the low four scores counting for the team totals at the par-72, 7,012-yard Polo Club.
Park paced Army with a five-over-par 77 with Anthony Kim and Robbie Hill tied for 10th at 81. Brandon Baerwaldt was a stroke back at 82, while Matt Philie put together an 84. Eric Park shot an 85 and David Marx a 92.
Army headed south for the event and benefitted from practice rounds at the Polo Club, Plantation Preserve Golf Course, the site of the second stage of PGA Tour Qualifying School, and PGA National. Plantation Preserve played to 7,000 yards and featured an island green, split fairways and Everglades-inspired wetlands. PGA National plays host to the PGA Honda Classic event and has a distinguished history of tournament play including the 1983 Ryder Cup, 1987 PGA Championship and two decades work of PGA Seniors Championships.
The Black Knights will compete in their first tournament of the spring March 12-13 at the Triumph at Pauma Valley, Calif.
