ORMOND BEACH, Fla. – Army improved its score in each round and finished sixth, Monday at the Gary Freeman Invitational at Halifax Plantation Golf Club.
The Black Knights opened with a 325 and 318 during Sunday’s 36-hole opening round and closed with a 213 at the par-72, 6,883 yard layout Monday morning.
Marcus Plunkett led the Black Knights with a tie for 17th after shooting a 232.
Florida Atlantic won the 12-team event after shooting 894, nine strokes in front of host Bethune-Cookman and 12 in front of Stetson. Rollins was fourth (907), followed by Laval (949) and Army (955).
Ryan Fricker of Bethune-Cookman won individual honors with a one-over-par total of 217, two better than Alex Gates of Florida Atlantic.
Plunkett shot Army’s best round of the championship, a two-over-par 74 on Sunday afternoon. He fired 79s in his first and third rounds.
Harrison Florence tied for 29th and like Army lowered his score each round shooting 82, 79 and 76.
Brandon Baerwaldt was two strokes behind Florence and closed with a 76 after and 82-81 start to finish tied for 31st.
Brandon Roberts was 45th after scores of 86-84-81 while Robby Hill finished 54th with a 269.
Army will return to action March 11 and 12 at the Triumph at Pauma Valley in California.
