WEST POINT, N.Y. - Joe Martinek rushed for 139 yards and two touchdowns and Rutgers forced three Army turnovers as the Scarlet Knights posted a 27-10 win, Friday night in front of nearly 25,000 wet fans at a rainy Michie Stadium.

Martinek carried 25 times and scored on runs of four and six yards as Rutgers improved to 5-2 and won its sixth straight against Army.

Army, which rushed for 197 yards, fell to 3-5.

The Black Knights scored on their first possession before Rutgers ran off 17 straight points and then scored the final 10 points of the contest.

Rutgers freshman quarterback Tom Savage completed 10-of-20 passes for 164 yards but was sacked twice. The rest of the Scarlet Knights' rushing attack combined for 15 carries and minus-seven rushing yards.

Kingsley Ehie paced the Army ground game with 56 yards on eight carries while Patrick Mealy picked up 49 yards on eight carries. Quarterback Trent Steelman, who connected on two-of-six passes for 16 yards, rushed 15 times for 43 yards and Malcolm Brown gained 29 yards on four carries.

Army's Stephen Anderson recorded a game-best 10 tackles and a pair of tackles for loss while Donovan Travis made seven stops. Josh McNary had a sack while Mike Gann and Brad Marren teamed for a sack.

For the seventh time in eight games, Army scored first, taking the opening kickoff and marching 55 yards. Steelman connected with Brown for 21 yards on the second play and then Ehie later broke off a 26-yard run. Alex Carlton capped the drive with a 41-yard field goal and a 3-0 lead four minutes into the game.

Rutgers responded with an eight-play, 54-yard drive. Martinek rushed for four yards, then later rushed for four yards and seven yards and capped the possession with a four-yard scoring rush. San San Te kicked the PAT.

The Black Knights punted on their next possession and Te kicked a 27-yard field goal to extend the Rutgers lead to 10-3.

Army was in punt formation on its next possession when Steve Beauharnais blocked the punt and then recovered it and took the loose ball into the end zone for a 17-3 Rutgers lead after one quarter.

The Black Knights trimmed their deficit in the third quarter. After Rutgers attempted a fake punt, Army took over and went 59 yards in four plays. Ehie rushed for two, Brown churned for eight yards and then Mealy snapped off a 22-yard run. A pair of Rutgers penalties set up Lonnie Liggins' 17-yard rushing touchdown, his first career score. Carlton kicked the PAT to make it 17-10 Rutgers with 10 minutes left in the third quarter.

Army fumbled on its next possession but Rutgers was forced to punt. Another Army fumble led to Martinek rushing for a six-yard touchdown and the games' final points.

The Black Knights are idle next weekend and will return to action Nov. 7 at service academy rival Air Force.
