WEST POINT, N.Y. - Army quarterback Trent Steelman can usually count on support on the road.

Steelman's parents, Bob and Trish, travel to almost every game.

Steelman expects his cheering section to grow Saturday against Vanderbilt. It's a homecoming game of sorts for Steelman, who lives in Bowling Green, Ky, about 45 minutes from Nashville, Tenn.

"I have a lot of friends and family coming," said Steelman, who could have 75 fans watch him play. "There will be a lot of Bowling Green natives there this week. It should be fun."

Steelman watched the Commodores play at Vanderbilt Stadium when he was in high school. Vanderbilt wasn't Steelman's favorite team.

"I was a big Tennessee Titans fan," Steelman said. "I've been to their stadium a bunch of times. I go to Nashville all of the time just to hang out."

On the field, Steelman leads the nation's quarterbacks with 11 rushing touchdowns and tops Army with 536 yards rushing. Steelman, who has started an academy-record 31 straight games, has completed 11 straight passes in his last two games.

"It's big part of our offense and it's definitely something to build on," Steelman said. "We know we have the receivers capable of making the play and we have the offensive line capable of protecting."

The emergence of Steelman's throwing coincides with senior wide receivers Davyd Brooks and Austin Barr, who have battled injuries, being paired in the starting lineup. Have Brooks, a Newburgh Free Academy graduate, and Barr stabilized Army's passing game, which had eight completions in its first four games?

"Maybe, I can see that," Army coach Rich Ellerson said. "They've had the most reps in practice and in games. You can trust them to do the right thing. You think, sometimes, the younger guys can do it a little better and a little faster. But those guys have played a lot of football."
