WEST POINT, N.Y. - After helping the Black Knights to a convincing 45-6 victory over Tulane on Saturday, three members of the Army football team picked up weekly awards, it was revealed on Monday.

Sophomore running back Raymond Maples, who sparked the Black Knights' offense with a career-high 141 rushing yards and one touchdown in the win versus Tulane, was selected as the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week.

Maples has been on a tear of late, having rushed for at least 95 yards in each of Army's last three games. The Philadelphia, Pa., native lists second on the squad with 423 rushing yards and three touchdowns through the first five games of the season.

Maples becomes the second Black Knight football player to earn AAA Athlete of the Week laurels, joining junior quarterback Trent Steelman, who won the award following his three-touchdown performance in Army's 21-14 win over Northwestern on Sept. 17.

Freshman linebacker Geoffrey Baconwas cited as the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) Independent Defensive Player of the Week by College Sports Madness after recording a team-high nine tackles versus Tulane. The Milwaukee, Wis., product set career highs with nine tackles, three solo hits and six assisted stops.

Senior placekicker Alex Carlton, meanwhile, was tabbed the FBS Independent Special Teams Player of the Week after converting all of his kicks against Tulane. Carlton drilled his first field goal of the season, a 23-yarder, and hit all six of his extra point attempts. The Wilmington, Del., native now ranks sixth all-time at Army with 68 career extra points.

Army will look to win consecutive games for the first time this season when the Black Knights travel to Oxford, Ohio, on Saturday, Oct. 5, to face Miami (Ohio). Kickoff from Yager Stadium is slated for 1 p.m.
