WEST POINT, N.Y.  - The Army football continued its preparations for the 2013 season and worked out in full pads for the first time this fall, Tuesday at both the Foley Athletic Center and on Howze Field.

Army utilized shorts and shells for the first five practices before beginning practice in full pads on Tuesday.

The Black Knights opened Tuesday's session with stretching and fundamental work before breaking into position groups.

As expected, the intensity rose a few levels during the nearly three-hour, up-tempo practice. After some special teams work, the squad broke into combatives where tackling, turnovers and ball protection were stressed.

The team then did 11-on-11 drills with two teams running simultaneously inside Foley Center and another group of Howze.

Midway through practice, the team headed into the locker room and returned in shorts for the final hour.

(Ref:. Practicing in pads)
"I think everyone looks forward to the first day in pads. There was great energy and enthusiasm. Every guy on the team did a great job. We were just talking about the defensive scout team and it's impossible to have a better defensive scout team in the country. There is a lot of things to clean up offensively, but they worked.

(Ref:. The effort thus far)
"There is no question we would be hard-pressed to find a better effort from any football team anywhere in the country."
