TEAM

  • Saturday marked the first meeting between Army and Western Kentucky.
  • Army is now 1-2 all-time vs. teams from the Sun Belt Conference with a 1-1 mark against Arkansas State.
  • Prior to the game, Army honored the 44 players and managers who played their final game at Michie Stadium as part of Senior Day festivities.
  • Army will play at Hawai’i on November 30. Kickoff is set for 11 p.m. Eastern time.
  • Army wore its black jerseys with Army Combat Uniforms (ACU) numbers, black pants and ACU helmets.

OFFENSE

  • Center Ryan Powis started his 17th consecutive game and the 27th of his career, the most of anyone on the offense.
  • Army started the same five men on the line for the 10th consecutive game: Michael Kime (left tackle), Stephen Shumaker (left guard), Powis, Zach Reichert (right guard) and Justin Gilbert (right tackle). 
  • Army did not score on its opening possession, just the third time this year Army has not scored on its first possession. Army has scored a touchdown five times and kicked two field goals on its initial possession.
  • Tony Giovannelli made his first career start at “C” back. He registered a career-high 68-yard run in the first quarter and finished with career highs in rushes (six) and rushing yards (82). He also had two receptions for 29 yards, the first two catches of his career.
  • Army rushed for 277 yards, the ninth time this season the team eclipsed 255 yards rushing.
  • Terry Baggett rushed for 102 yards, the fifth time this season he went over the 100-yard mark. Baggett now has six career 100-yard rushing games which moves him into a tie for 12th all-time at the Academy.
  • Seven different players had reception.

DEFENSE

  • Jarrett Mackey made the 26th start of his career and how has started nine straight games.
  • Team captain Thomas Holloway returned to the starting lineup at Rover. Holloway had missed the last three games after being injured at Boston College.
  • Holloway made a second-quarter interception, his first of the season and second of his career. He finished with a team-high 11 tackles. He has three double-digit tackle games this season and six for his career.
  • Mackey recorded a career-best two sacks, totaling losses of 22 yards. Mackey had 1.5 sacks vs. Rutgers on Oct. 18, 2010. He was credited with eight tackles against Western Kentucky.
  • Mike Ugenyi, Richard Glover and Joe Drummond each had a tackle for loss.
  • James Kelly forced a fumble for the first time this season and second time in his career.

SPECIAL TEAMS

  • Alex Tardieu ran for 20 yards on fake punt in the third quarter. It was his first career rush.
  • Army recovered an onsides kick to open the game but the play was nullified by an offsides whistle against the Black Knights.
  • Daniel Grochowski converted both of his point-after touchdown attempts and is now 30-30 on the season.
  • Alex Tardieu punted three times, two of which fell inside the Western Kentucky 20-yard line.

IN ATTENDANCE

  • Among the Senior Day crowd of 36,276 was Red Sox General Manager Ben Cherington and former NFL head coach Romeo Crennell, a Western Kentucky graduate.
