North Central College '81

Another coach with long-time ties to Bobby Ross, Gary Miller enters his second season as an assistant football coach at Army. Miller assists Stan Brock in the instruction of the Black Knights' offensive linemen.

A 1981 graduate of North Central College, Miller served as an assistant football coach at the highly respected Marist School in Atlanta, Ga., from 1992 to 2003. After holding responsibilities as the squad's defensive coordinator for three years, he was elevated to the role of assistant head coach in 1995 and began working with the team's offensive linemen at that time. He also doubled as a chemistry instructor.

It marked Miller's second term at Marist, after having filled a role on the high school's coaching staff from 1986 through 1990. Miller worked with the program's offensive and defensive linemen during that period before departing the high school ranks for an opportunity to work for Ross at Georgia Tech. As a member of Ross' national championship-winning coaching staff at Georgia Tech, Miller worked with the Yellow Jackets' defensive linemen for two seasons in a graduate assistant's capacity. He helped Georgia Tech to appearances in the Citrus Bowl (1990) and Aloha Bowl (1991) in that time.

Highly recognized for his exploits in the classroom, Miller, 46, has earned numerous awards for excellence in teaching. He was also honored as an AFLAC National Assistant Coach of the Year in 2001 and helped Marist to a pair of state football championships (1989, 2003) during his 17 years on the War Eagles' coaching staff.

Miller boasts significant ties to both the Midwest and Southeast. The Grayslake, Ill., native was born and raised in the Midwest and played college football at North Central College in Naperville, Ill. However, for 18 years of his professional career, Miller worked in Atlanta.

As an undergraduate at North Central, Miller played football for four years, lettering at quarterback in his final two campaigns. Following his graduation, Miller went on to earn a master's degree in education from Northern Illinois University in 1984.

Miller and his wife, Terri, have two sons: Ross, 11; and Carter, 9. The family resides in Highland Falls.
