The Black Knights are 3-3 in December heading into the month’s final game. A win would give the Black Knights their first winning month since posting a 4-2 mark in November 2011.
Army is coming off a 71-64 loss at Presbyterian. Junior F Ella Ellis led all players with 22 points, while senior G Julian Simmons reached double figures for the second straight outing with 14 points. Freshman G Milton Washington made his first career start and responded with a career-high 12 points. The Black Knights led by as many as 11 points early in the second half, but the Blue Hose used a 17-0 run to retake the lead. Army led 54-52, but another PC run pushed the Blue Hose over the top.
Ellis is on the best scoring streak of his career. The Houston native has posted at least 20 points in three straight games, tying his career best streak. He is averaging 22.3 points per contest in that span. Ellis has scored in double figures in a career-high 15 straight games. He ranks third in the Patriot League with a 17.5 points per game scoring average.
Simmons has started to heat up as well. He has scored in double figures in back-to-back games, averaging 13.5 points in the last two outings. His 14-point effort against Presbyterian moved him into 26th place on the Army scoring list. Simmons has 1,038 career points, just six shy of 25th place and 16 points short of 24th place.
Washington became the fourth Army freshman to start this season, and the fourth plebe to score in double figures this season. Washington, Maxwell Lenox, Mo Williams and Jalen Harris have all started at least once and have scored at least 10 points in a game this season. The freshman class has combined to score 212 points (16.3 ppg), which is 24.4 percent of Army’s point production this season. Lenox is the Black Knights’ leader in both assists and steals.
Sophomore G Josh Herbeck made one three-pointer at Presbyterian, his 13th straight game with at least one triple. Herbeck leads the team with 28 three-pointers this season.
