Box Score

WEST POINT, N.Y. - Matt Bell scored a game-high 17 points as the Army men's basketball team cruised past N.Y. Purchase, 101-40, Saturday afternoon at Christl Arena. The 101-point effort marked the first time the Black Knights eclipsed the 100 point barrier since a 104-103 overtime victory over Lafayette in the 2000-01 season. Army's 8-2 start is the program's best 10-game opening stretch since it opened the 1976-77 campaign with an identical mark.

Bell was one of four Black Knights to post double-digit scoring performances. Jarell Brown chipped in 15 points, Tyrell Thompson scored a career-high 13, while Marcus Nelson posted 10.

Army senior Jimmy Sewell tied the Academy's single-game record with four blocks, boosting his career total to 64. Sewell, who also added four points and six rebounds in seven minutes of action, now shares the Academy record for career blocked shots with Chares Woodruff.

Black Knight sophomore forward Kenny Brewer ripped down a game-high seven rebounds, while also chipping in four points. Junior guard Grant Carter tallied a season-high nine points on three triples.

On the strength of four three-pointers, the Black Knights jumped out to an 18-6 lead at the 14:37 mark. After N.Y. Purchase (2-7) closed to within eight points at 29-21 at the 4:53 mark, Army outscored the Panthers, 13-0, to finish the half with a 42-21 lead.

Army cruised from there, outscoring N.Y. Purchase, 59-19, in the second stanza en route to the 61-point victory. The 61-point margin marked the largest margin of victory for Army since defeating Maryland, 85-22, during the 1944 season.

The Black Knights shot a season-high 63.2 percent from the floor, connecting on 43 of 68 field goals. The Black Knights handed out an all-time high 27 assists. Army outrebounded N.Y. Purchase, 46-23.

The Black Knights return to the hardwood on Monday, Dec. 18, when they host N.Y. Maritime at Christl Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
