TIP-OFF TIDBITS
► The Black Knights will play just their third home game of the season on Friday night when they host the Maine Black Bears. Army has won its first two home games this season, averaging 88.0 points per game in the process. The Black Knights are currently riding a six-game home winning streak versus non-conference opponents.
► Maine is making its first trip to West Point since Dec. 22, 1969. Army was victorious in that game, 68-42. The two teams have not met since.
► Army is coming off a 69-67 loss at NJIT. The Highlanders scored the game-winning basket with one second left to cap a dramatic comeback. NJIT scored the final seven points of the game. Senior Ella Ellis led Army with 16 points, while junior Andrew Stire netted a career-high 13 points. Rookie Kyle Wilson added 10 points, his fifth double-digit outing in the first nine games.
► Army outrebounded the Highlanders, 48-35. The Black Knights own a +4.3 rebounding margin for the season, second-best in the Patriot League. Army has not held a positive rebounding margin since the 1995-96 squad bested their opponents by 0.4 rebounds per game. The Black Knights’ current margin would be the highest since the 1969-70 squad also outrebounded foes by 4.3 per game.
► Ellis’s 16-point effort against NJIT kept him on top of the Army scoring ledger at 19.7 points per contest. He has been the Black Knights’ leading scorer in eight of the first nine games, and has scored in double figures in 12 straight outings. Ellis’s 1,214 career points ranks 18th all-time at West Point.
► Ellis has been on target from long range in recent weeks. In the last six games, he is making 50.0 percent of his three-point tries (20-40). His 2.9 triples per game on the season are the most in the Patriot League. Ellis is ranked sixth on Army’s career three-point list (147).
► Of the 13 players that made an appearance against NJIT, seven were plebes. Those seven, led by Wilson’s 10 points, accounted for 32 of Army’s 67 points (47.8 percent). For the season, freshmen have scored 46.2 percent of Army’s points.
► Friday is Army’s last game before taking a week-long break for term-ending exams.
