TIP-OFF TIDBITS
►  The Black Knights are 76-35 in their previous 111 season openers. This is the sixth time in the last eight seasons Army has opened away from West Point.
► The Black Knights posted a 16-15 record last season, snapping a run of 28 straight losing seasons. Army went 8-6 in Patriot League play, tying the program record for conference victories originally set during the 1986-87 season when the Black Knights competed in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
► Army returns five of its top eight scorers from last season, including sophomore Kyle Wilson. Wilson, the unanimous choice for Patriot League Rookie of the Year, was the Black Knights second-leading point producer in 2012-13 at 13.0 points per game. His 403 points were the third most ever by a plebe.
► Army scored an Academy record 2,245 points last season. The Black Knights' 72.4 points per game represented its highest scoring average since 1994-95.
► Despite bringing back six players that started a combined 82 games last season, the center of gravity on the Army roster still lies in the freshmen and sophomore classes. Of the 18 players that are set to be in uniform this weekend, 14 of them are underclassmen. Army has just one senior, Josh Herbeck, on the 2013-14 roster.
► During the offseason, the Black Knights named their team captains. Senior Josh Herbeck, junior Maxwell Lenox and sophomore Dylan Cox were selected by their teammates. Herbeck is in his second season as a team captain, while Cox is only the second yearling in program history to earn the distinction.
► In a vote of the league's head coaches and sports information directors, Army was chosen third in the Patriot League Preseason Poll. It is the highest preseason ranking in program history. The Black Knights have never finished higher than fourth in the Patriot League standings.

A WIN OVER AIR FORCE WOULD ...
► Even the all-time series versus the Falcons at 3-3.
► Put Army in the championship game of the All-Military Classic for the first time.
► Be the Black Knights' fifth win in the last seven games away from West Point.
► Mark the first time Army won its season opener since a win over Vassar to start the 2010-11 season. It would be the first time the Black Knights started 1-0 versus a Division I team since defeating Dartmouth to start the 2008-09 campaign.
► End Army's four-game losing streak in season openers played away from West Point.
► Be head coach Zach Spiker's 54th victory at West Point (53-67).

THE ARMY-AIR FORCE SERIES
► Air Force leads the all-time series with Army, 3-2. The Falcons and Black Knights have met in the season opener at the All-Military Classic in each of the past two seasons. Air Force won on their home floor, 87-71, in 2011, and scored a 76-65 win at The Citadel last season.
►  Prior to the inaugural All-Military Classic, the two service academies had not met on the basketball court since Nov. 28, 1987 at the Freedom Bowl Classic in Irvine, Calif.
► The Black Knights won the first meeting, 68-49, at West Point on Jan. 27, 1977. The two teams did not meet again until the 1985-86 season when Army,  Navy and Air Force traveled to Tokyo, Japan to particpate in the Suntory Ball. Air Force took a 56-50 win in that contest.

YOUNG GUNS II
► The Black Knights had at least two freshmen in the starting lineup in all 31 games last season, even utilizing a first five of all plebes on twice.
► That group of plebes included the unanimous Patriot League Rookie of the Year  (Kyle Wilson), the first Army plebe to hand out 100 assists in 30 years (Dylan Cox) and the Academy single-season blocked shot record holder (Kevin Ferguson). In addition, Larry Toomey started 16 times and averaged in double figures in Patriot League Tournament play.
► The youth movement will continue in 2013-14. The Black Knights have just one senior on the roster (Josh Herbeck), and the junior class is just three players deep (Maxwell Lenox, Milton Washington, Mo Williams).
► Fourteen of Army's 18 players making the trip to VMI this weekend are freshmen or sophomores.
► The Black Knights' probable starting lineup includes Herbeck and four sophomores -- Cox, Wilson, Tanner Plomb and Ferguson.

HIGH EXPECTATIONS
► Army was chosen third in the 2013-14 Patriot League Preseason Poll. It was the first time the Black Knights were predicted to finish in the top three.
► The Black Knights have not finished higher than fourth in the Patriot League standings since joining the conference in 1990. Army finished fourth and hosted a conference quarterfinal game last season.
