WEST POINT, N.Y.  – Following a trip to the Patriot League Tournament semifinals, Army’s fifth in the last eight seasons, the Black Knights handed out their annual team awards, Sunday at Kimsey Athletic Center.

Head coach Zach Spiker and assistant coaches Jimmy Allen, Kevin App, Sean Rutigliano and Quinton Ferrell praised the team for upsetting Bucknell in the opening round of the playoffs, the team’s 15 wins and the host of records the team set.

Army blocked a school-record 132 shots in 2013-14, scored 2,224 points, second most in the record books and had a number of players collect league and national honors.

Firsties Josh Herbeck and Cartavious Kincade were presented with Senior Class Awards at the annual gathering.

Herbeck, junior Maxwell Lenox and sophomore Dylan Cox, the team’s tri-captains, collected Simpson Memorial Awards, which are given to West Point captains in memory of First Lieutenant Eber E. Simpson, a Class of 1943 USMA graduate.

Herbeck also took home the Stillwell Award, presented for outstanding leadership and character.

The Stillwell Award is presented in honor of Brigadier General Joseph Stillwell, a member of the West Point Class of 1904. Stillwell is known for introducing basketball to the Academy as a cadet and served as the head coach of West Point's first team. Herbeck played in all 31 games, hit 46 three-pointers, grabbed 30 rebounds, handed out 22 assists and recorded 11 steals

Sophomore Kyle Wilson, who among other honors was named to the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association second team, the Patriot League All-Tournament Team and was a first-team all-league selection, was presented with the Roosma Award to the team’s most valuable player.

The Roosma Award is named for Colonel John S. Roosma, a Class of 1926 USMA graduate. He was captain of the basketball team and was Army's first 1,000-point scorer. Wilson led the Patriot League in scoring and averaged 18.4 points per game. He was successful on 63-of145 three-point attempts and started all but one game.

Army finished the 2013-14 season with a 15-16 overall mark and a 10-8 record in the Patriot League.
