CENTER VALLEY, Pa.  –  Army freshman Kyle Wilson was named the Patriot League Men’s Basketball Rookie of the Week on Monday after leading the Black Knights to a pair of victories. Wilson averaged 18.0 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists in road wins at Lafayette and Navy.

The honor is the fifth of the season for Wilson. It is the most by a Patriot League rookie in 2012-13 and the most by an Army player since Davis Aardayfio collected six certificates en route to his Rookie of the Year selection in 1990-91.

Wilson opened the week with a 24-point, seven-rebound, four-assist performance in the Black Knights’ 86-68 win at Lafayette. He made his first five shots and finished the game 9-for-13 overall and 2-for-3 from three-point range. It was Army’s first win on the Leopards’ home floor since 2009.

He followed that with a team-high 12 points in Army’s 56-55 win in the annual Army-Navy Star Game. One of Wilson’s second-half baskets capped the Black Knights’ seven-point comeback and gave Army a 47-46 lead. It was the first time Army captured the Alumni Trophy in consecutive seasons since a three-year run from 1976-78, and was the Black Knights’ first Star Game win in Annapolis since 1992.

Wilson is the Black Knights’ second-leading scorer at 13.3 points per game. He ranks eighth in the Patriot League overall and is the conference’s highest-scoring freshman. In conference action, he is tied for the team lead and is tied for fifth in the Patriot League at 15.1 points per game.

The Black Knights have now collected four of the last five Patriot League rookie honors. Wilson has won the award twice in that span.

Army (12-13, 5-5 PL), winners of four of its last six games, returns home to face Colgate on Wednesday, Feb. 20. Tip-off is at 7 p.m.
