WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army men's basketball team welcomes the American Eagles to Christl Arena on Saturday afternoon. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. The Black Knights have won two in a row, defeating Navy and Colgate. Army boasts a 9-4 record at West Point this season and has won seven of its last nine outings on the banks of the Hudson.

ABOUT ARMY
► The Black Knights enter the home stretch of the regular-season schedule with a chance to improve their Patriot League position. Army is currently in sixth place with a 5-6 record, one game behind Holy Cross and Lafayette which are tied for fourth place at 6-5. The Black Knights’ win over Colgate assured at least the sixth seed in the conference tournament.

► Army made nine three-pointers in the second half of its win over Colgate (9-13), outscoring the Raiders by 20 points to break open a tie game at halftime. The shooting exhibition snapped the Black Knights out of a 15-for-61 three-point funk (.246) over their previous 110 minutes of play. Junior F Ella Ellis (5), sophomore G Josh Herbeck (5) and senior G Julian Simmons (2) accounted for all 12 of Army’s threes against Colgate. Herbeck and Ellis made seven triples during a 24-4 run that secured the victory.

► Herbeck (68), Simmons (58) and Ellis (57) are the first three Army players to have made at least 50 triples in the same season. Herbeck is tied for eighth on the Black Knights’ single-season ledger, and his 106 career three-pointers are the second most ever by an Army player in their first two seasons. His next three-pointer will give him Army’s best season from long range since Jarell Brown set teh academy record with 101 in 2007-08. Herbeck ranks 10th on the Black Knights’ all-time three-pointers made list and third on the career three-point percentage chart (.417).

► Ellis scored a game-high 22 points, including 20 in the second half, at Colgate to move within eight points of the 1,000 mark for his career. Ellis is averaging 18.5 points per game, third best in the Patriot League. He has scored in double figures in 28 straight games and has 11 20-point performances this season.

► Simmons is just two three-pointers shy of becoming only the second Army player to make 60-or-more triples in three different seasons (Mark Lueking). Simmons hit 61 as a sophomore and 68 last season. His 226 career three-pointers if fourth on Army’s all-time list.

ABOUT AMERICAN
► The Eagles enter Saturday’s game winners of four of their last five. AU is coming off a 69-47 home win over Navy. Charles Hinkle led the team with 18 points, while Tony Wroblicky posted a double-double of 13 points and 12 rebounds.

► American has been unbeatable at home this season, posting an 11-0 record. The Eagles are 6-9 on the road, but have won two of their last three games away from Bender Arena.

► The Eagles are scoring 64.4 points per game this season. Hinkle, a transfer from Vanderbilt, is averaging a team-high 19.2 points per game, the second-best scoring average in the Patriot League. Troy Brewer is also scoring in double figures at 12.0 points per contest.

► Defensively, the Eagles are allowing just 62.1 points per game, the second-best scoring opponent’s scoring average in the Patriot League. AU’s foes are shooting just 41.4 percent overall and 31.4 percent from deep for the season, also the second best averages in the Patriot League.

► American scored a 67-55 win over Army on Jan. 21. The Black Knights held Hinkle to just eight points, but Brewer scored a game-high 22, including 19 in the second half. Army shot just 18.5 percent in the first half, falling behind by 12 at halftime.

SHOOTING STARS
► Army’s success is largely predicated on their ability to shoot the basketball. The Black Knights are 30-8 since the start of the 2004-05 season when making at least half their shots.

► Since the start of the 2004-05 season, Army is 71-61 when shooting at least 40 percent from the floor and 13-83 when shooting below 40 percent.

► Army has lost 19 straight games when shooting 33.3 percent or worse.

► Army is 41-9 in its last 50 games when outshooting its opponent. The Presbyterian game snapped a 13-game winning streak when shooting a higher percentage than its opponent.

The Black Knights play their final road game of the regular season on Wednesday at Holy Cross. Army won the first meeting of the season, 74-68, at Christl Arena.
