TIP-OFF TIDBITS
► Army returns home for a key Patriot League match up when it hosts American Saturday afternoon. The Eagles are the lone unbeaten team in Patriot League play (7-0), while the Black Knights are tied for second place at 6-1.
► The Black Knights are off to their best conference start in program history and have already matched their second-highest conference win total of all-time. Army is 14-7 in Patriot League play since the start of last season and have won 11 of their last 13 regular-season games versus conference foes.
► Army is 4-1 in its last five home games. The Black Knights rebounded from its only home loss in that span with a 74-67 win against Bucknell in their last appearance at Christl Arena on Jan. 19.
► The Black Knights are coming off a 66-63 win at Colgate. It was the team’s fourth straight Patriot League road win, matching the program record set last season. In a back-and-forth game, Army led by eight in the first half, trailed by 11 in the second half, regained an eight-point advantage and trailed by one with 34 seconds remaining before Dylan Cox’s game-winning basket with 21 seconds to go. Kyle Wilson set the final margin with a pair of free throws with 4.5 seconds left. Josh Herbeck led the team with 16 points, including five three-pointers. Wilson scored all 15 of his points in the final 11:40, while Cox completed his second career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Kyle Wilson remains on top of Army’s scoring ledger at 18.8 points per game. He is averaging 19.6 points per contest in Patriot League play. Both averages rank second in the conference. Wilson has nine 20-point efforts this season, including a 28-point outburst in his last appearance at Christl Arena.
Tanner Plomb returned from an illness that caused him to miss the Bucknell game to score four points in 15 minutes off the bench at Colgate. Despite his conference season low, he ranks third in the Patriot League at 16.3 points per contest in league games. Plomb is shooting 59.0 percent overall (36-61) and 50.0 percent (12-24) from three-point range against Patriot League opponents this season.
Kevin Ferguson needs only one more blocked shot to break his own single-season Army record. Ferguson has rejected 35 shots in the first 18 games, matching his 31-game total from 2012-13. He needs only five more blocks to become the Black Knights’ all-time leader.
