WEST POINT, N.Y. - Freshman guard Dylan Cox has been named the Patriot League Men's Basketball Rookie of the Week for his performance in Army's last two games. Cox averaged 11.5 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists while not committing a turnover in that span.
In Army's 77-54 win over Lafayette, the Cedar Park, Texas native scored 13 points, grabbed four rebounds and handed out two assists. He was 5-for-7 from the field, including a three-pointer. He followed with his first career double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds against arch-rival Navy. Cox shot 64.3 percent (9-14) in the two games.
For the season, Cox is the only Army freshman to start all 18 games. He leads the team in assists (2.7/game) and rebounds (5.6/game), and is the top rebounding freshman in the Patriot League. As Army's primary ballhander, Cox boasts a 1.1 assist-to-turnover ratio.
Cox is the second Army plebe to capture the league's rookie honor this season. Kyle Wilson has earned three Patriot League certificates in his first season on the banks of the Hudson. It is the second straight year that Army has had two different freshman win the honor.
The Black Knights are back on the road Wednesday night at Colgate before returning home to face American Saturday afternoon. Army swept the Raiders last season and has won two straight games at Cotterell Court in Hamilton.
