WEST POINT, N.Y. - While the Army men's basketball team has won four of its last five on the court, the Black Knights have also realized success in the classroom. A total of seven members of the program, including four players and three cadet managers, were named to the West Point Dean's List for their academic performance during the Fall 2010 semester.
Juniors Jason Pancoe (3.34) and Jordan Springer (3.23), along with plebes Zach Lord (3.06) and Sean Billerman (3.00) each qualified for the honor last semester. Sangwoo Choi (3.56), Adam Kunkle (3.79) and Dan Sears (3.95) represented the Black Knights' cadet managers on the fall dean's list.
In addition, freshmen Michael Felton, Chris Gramling and Milton Washington just missed making the list, posting grade-point averages of 2.7 or better during their first semester at West Point.
The academic accolades add to the program's list of classroom achievement. Current athletic intern, 2nd Lt. Nathan Hedgecock earned Academic All-America honors and was named the Patriot League Men's Basketball Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2011. Hedgecock and Pancoe were also named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll last season.
Army opens Patriot League play on Saturday, Jan. 7 when it hosts defending league champion Bucknell. Tip-off at Christl Arena is set for 4 p.m.
