CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. -
After two days of waiting, Army finally got to play a game at the Charlottesville Regional on Friday afternoon, and the fourth-seeded Black Knights gave top-seeded Virginia all it could handle in a 2-1 setback.
Chris Rowley pitched well for Army, limiting the powerful Cavaliers to just two runs on eight hits over seven innings. The Black Knights took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fifth on Grant Van Orden's suicide squeeze bunt, but Virginia rallied with two runs in the bottom half of the frame to move in front for good.
The Black Knights will play second-seeded UNC Wilmington on Saturday in an elimination game at 1 p.m. The Seahawks dropped a wild 10-7 decision to third-seeded Elon on Friday evening.
After today's game, head coach Joe Sottolano and Rowley participated in a postgame press conference with members of the media. Following a couple of more interviews, the team boarded the bus and went back to the hotel.
The players and coaches went their separate ways for dinner on Friday night. With so many families in town, most players ate with their parents and other relatives.
Everyone remains focused on the task at hand, and I know the team is looking forward to getting back on the field on Saturday afternoon.
