Senior catcher J.T. Watkins will take Army baseball fans on a journey throughout the 2012 season through his blog Behind the Plate. Watkins, who is serving as one of the Black Knights' co-captains this year, is a two-time All-Patriot League selection. Check back weekly to follow along with the inside happenings of the Army baseball team.
Everyone is 0-0. Everything we've done up to this point has been great, but our focus has shifted toward the playoffs, and earning a spot in an NCAA Regional. All of our practices are geared toward achieving that goal. We have put ourselves in a good position to do well in the tournament, and the guys are anxious to get started. Last weekend against Bloomfield, we certainly hit the ball better than we had been, and that's a testament to the work guys put in during the week.
It was also great to see the team come away with some Patriot League awards. Those guys are so deserving, and it's awesome to be a part of such a talented team.
The playoffs have a great atmosphere, but for our team, we've treated every game as if it would be our last, so not much changes going into the weekend. We understand what it takes to win, and we're capable of doing those things. All that's left now is to get out there and do it, and prove ourselves again. We're used to playing with a chip on our shoulders after being told we wouldn't finish in the top half of the conference. Nobody has expected us to do this well...except for us.
Let's go get it.
