Army will host Lafayette this weekend

WEST POINT, N.Y.  – The Army baseball team will resume Patriot League play with a pair of doubleheaders this weekend against Lafayette at Doubleday Field at Johnson Stadium.

Saturday’s games are scheduled for noon, while Sunday’s will begin at 1 p.m.

This is the second of three straight weekends the Black Knights are home for league contests.

Army is 16-9 overall and 1-2 in league play following the opening series against Lehigh.

Lafayette is 7-12 overall and 1-1 in league matchups after splitting a pair of games with Holy Cross.

The Black Knights are coming off a 7-3 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson on Tuesday and show a 4-4 record at home.

Army is hitting .267 as a team with 215 runs scored. Second baseball Kris Lindner is hitting .357 to pace the squad with 15 hits and 12 runs scored. Outfielder Jon Crucitti has a team-best 32 hits and 24 runs scored. Outfielder Jacob Page has 42 total bases with six doubles, a home run and 18 runs batted in, while shortstop Alex Jensen also has six doubles. Patrick Mescher has a pair of home runs and 18 RBI. Designated hitter/outfielder Mark McCants has registered 23 hits with third baseman Harold Earls contributing 22. Outfielder Daniel Cortes is hitting .328 with 19 hits and 12 runs scored.

Catchers Ben Smith and Connor Love have both contributed. Smith has played in 15 games and Love 12 and each show nine hits.

Army is expected to throw Nick Dignacco, Alex Robinnett and Gunnar Carroll this weekend with the fourth starter still to be determined. Dignacco is 4-1 with a 1.96 earned-run average. He has struck out 40 and walked just eight in 42.1 innings of work. Robinett has pitched 45.2 innings with a 2.36 ERA and 2-2 record. He has 41 strikeouts and 16 walks. Carroll is 4-1 with a 1.96 ERA in 42.1 innings pitched. He has 27 strikeouts and eight walks. Brock Davidson, Johnny Griffith, Julian Larimer, Brian Hapeman and Robinett have all earned a save this season.

Lafayette has scored 67 runs and is batting .219. Jackson Kramer shows a team-high .385 batting average, while Andrew Santomauro has a team-high 19 hits and 12 runs scored. Parker Hills has 17 hits and is batting .304. 

The Leopards are expected to counter with Connor Ortolf, Mitch Leeds, David Bednar and one to be determined. Bednar is 1-1 with a 0.87 earned run average in four starts with 20 strikeouts in 20.2 innings of work. Ortolf is 2-3 with a 2.50 ERA in 39.2 innings pitched. Leeds shows an 0-2 mark with a 4.63 ERA.

Army will play at Fordham Wednesday at 7 p.m. in the Bronx, N.Y. and host Bucknell April 12-13.
