Watch Lynch Interview

WEST POINT, N.Y. - When this week's AAA Athlete of the Week selection was made, it was a pair of seniors shining last week in baseball and lacrosse that resulted in Kevin McKague and Devin Lynch picking up co-honors, respectively.

Both were honored for the first time on Monday, while McKague is the third different baseball player to garner the award and Lynch is the first lacrosse player to be recognized this spring.

McKague helped the Black Knights post a perfect 5-0 record last week. The senior led Army (15-6) offensively throughout the five-game stretch, batting .500 (6-for-12) with a .583 slugging percentage and .632 on-base percentage. The two-way standout, who doubles as the Black Knights' shutdown closer, also saved three of the team's five wins.

He began the week by going 1-for-3 with an RBI as Army defeated Quinnipiac, 3-0, in the Black Knights' home opener on Wednesday. He nailed down that win by pitching a perfect ninth inning to earn his first save of the week.

A native of Fayetteville, N.C., McKague combined to go 2-for-5 with three RBI and one run scored in Army's doubleheader sweep of Harvard on Friday. He also saved both wins, striking out the side in the seventh inning of a 4-2 win the opener and pitching around a walk in a 5-4 victory in the nightcap.

McKague finished his productive week by going 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored as Army completed a four-game sweep of Harvard on Saturday. He was 1-for-1 with a pair of walks and an RBI in Army's 1-0 victory in the first game, before posting two hits and a run scored in the Black Knights' 7-6 10-inning win in the nightcap.

For the season, McKague is batting .347 with five doubles, one home run and 15 RBI. He also shows a 0.00 earned run average in six relief appearances. He's recorded four saves and struck out eight batters in six innings of work. He stands just one save shy of tying the Academy's career record.

McKague and his Army teammates return to action on Wednesday, March 28, when the Black Knights travel to New York City to face Columbia at 3:30 p.m. That contest will serve as the final tune-up before Army begins its Patriot League schedule this weekend (March 31-April 1) with a trip to Annapolis, Md., to face Navy.

Devin Lynch

A co-captain in his final season on the banks of the Hudson, Lynch played an instrumental role in the Black Knights' first Patriot League win of the year as Army pounded Lafayette 10-3 on Saturday, March 24. The victory also marked the Black Knights' first road win.

Lynch completed is first hat trick of the season and second of his career and finished tied for a team-high four points (3G, 1A). Lynch's first goal of the game, an unassisted tally with 12:03 left in the second quarter, would prove to be the eventual game-winner. He netted back-to-back goals in the second period, tallying another with 8:43 on the clock, during a pivotal 4-0 Army scoring run that gave the Black Knights a 5-1 lead from which Lafayette would never recover.

Lynch's final goal of the game came with 3:39 remaining in the third quarter and gave Army an 8-3 cushion. He assisted junior attackman Andrew Boyd on the Black Knights' next goal under a minute later.

A native of Skaneateles, N.Y., Lynch is a four-year starter in Army's midfield. His 12 goals this season are tied for second on the team, while he sits in fourth with 16 points (12G, 4A). Saturday's game-winning goal marked the first of the season for Lynch after totaling three game-winners as a junior.

Army continues Patriot League play over the next four weekends. Next up is a home tilt against No. 17 Colgate on Saturday, March 31, at Michie Stadium. A noon face-off is scheduled.

Tickets for individual home games are $6 for adults and $4 for groups (10 or more), youth or senior citizens. Those prices increase to $8 and $10, respectively, for the highly anticipated Army-Navy showdown on April 14. Tickets can be ordered online via www.goARMYsports.com, by phone at 1-877-TIX-ARMY or in-person at the Army Ticket Office.
