WEST POINT, N.Y. – Alex Robinett was named the Patriot League Preseason Pitcher of the Year and was one of eight Army players named to the first and second teams as College Sports Madness released its all league preseason teams.

Robinett, 7-4 with a 3.43 earned run average last season, was one of four preseason major award selections.

Robinett, a junior right-hander, was one of three first-team pitchers and one of three Army players selected to the first team along with infielders Patrick Mescher and Alex Jensen. Brock Davidson, Harold Earls, Jacob Page and Mark McCants were second team choices.

Mescher, a senior co-captain and first basemen, led the team with a .341 average last season, including 59 hits and 40 runs batted in. Jensen, a junior shortstop, hit .292 last year and scored 42 runs.

Davidson, a sophomore left-handed pitcher, was 2-3 in 11 appearances in 2013 with one complete game. Earls, a junior third baseman, batted .254 with 34 runs scored and three triples a year ago. Page, a sophomore outfielder, was third on the team with a .307 average that included eight doubles, four triples and three home runs. McCants, a junior outfielder, was second on the squad with a .314 average and knocked in 24 runs.

Robinett, Jensen, Earls, Page and McCants were selected to the preseason all league team released by the Patriot League last week.

Army finished 29-23 last season after beating Navy and Holy Cross to win its seventh league title. Army played in the NCAA Charlottesville, Va. Regional, the sixth time the squad has advanced to the NCAA Tournament.

The Black Knights, with a roster featuring seven seniors, seven juniors, 14 sophomores and seven freshmen, open the season Feb. 14-16 with a three-game series at William & Mary. The matchup features a pair of teams that qualified for the NCAA Tournament last season and is the first among the two teams.
