BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell scored four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning and beat Army, 6-5, Saturday afternoon at Jim Perry Stadium in the CU Classic.

Army put together 10 hits but fell to the Camels, the defending Big South regular season champions who won a school-record 49 games last season.

The Black Knights, now 4-4, will conclude play at the tournament Sunday with a noon contest against Albany.

Jon Crucitti had two hits and two runs batted in for Army. Daniel Cortes and Alex Jensen also had two hits. Cortes knocked in two runs and Jensen scored twice.

Campbell, which beat Missouri on Wednesday, improved to 8-3.

Army starting pitcher Nick Dignacco threw seven strong innings. He allowed seven hits and struck out four. He walked the first batter he faced in the eighth inning, his only free pass of the game. Dignacco was charged with three runs.

Carson Meadows entered and allowed a run-scoring single. He gave way to Julian Larimer.

Army struck first, scoring in its first at-bat. Crucitti led off the game with a walk and then Harold Earls singled. After Mark McCants and Jacob Page grounded out, Patrick Mescher singled to plate Crucitti. Jensen then beat out a single to score Earls for a 2-0 lead.

Campbell answered with back-to-back doubles in the bottom of the first inning and scored two runs in its first at-bat to knot the game at 2 after one inning.

McCants led off the third inning with a single but was stranded at second after a sacrifice bunt and a pair of flyouts.

Army went on top in the top of the sixth inning. Cortes singled and two outs later, Johnny Griffith was hit by a pitch. Crucitti drilled a triple to score both and give Army a 4-2 lead. Earls and McCants both walked to load the bases but a pop fly ended the threat and the inning.

Cortes doubled in the seventh, his second hit of the game and took third on a pitch in the dirt. He scored when Jensen doubled for his second hit of the game putting Army on top 5-2 in the seventh inning.

Campbell went on top in the eighth inning with four-runs. Dignacco walked Will Albertson to open the inning, ending his day. Meadows came on to pitch and got two quick outs. He walked Austin Beard before Matt Nadolski singled to plate Albertson. Larimer then entered and pinch-hitter Seth LaRue hit a three-run home run.
