WILLIAMSBURG, Va. - Army scored four runs in the sixth inning and won its first game of the season, 4-2, against William & Mary on a chilly Sunday afternoon at Plumeri Park.

Army and William & Mary got rained out on Saturday forcing a doubleheader on Sunday. In the opener, Army was opportunistic on offense and benefitted from two solid pitching performances to improve to 1-1.

Army interim head coach Matt Reid recorded his first head coaching victory as the Black Knights topped the Tribe, an NCAA Regional team last season.

Jon Crucitti and Daniel Cortes each had two hits for Army while four different players scored runs.

Nick Dignacco, who missed last season with an injury, was sharp in his return. He threw five innings, scattered five hits and surrendered just an unearned run. He struck out four and walked none. Alex Robinett finished up for his first save of the season. He allowed one run, just two hits and struck out five in four innings of work.

William & Mary scored the game's first run in the third, Kevin Nutter doubled with one out and scored on an error.

Amy then went ahead to stay in the top of the sixth inning. With one out, Harold Earls walked and Patrick Mescher reached on a fielder's choice. One out later, Jacob Page walked and Alex Jensen was hit by a pitch to force in a run. Cortes delivered a single to left field to plate Page and Mescher. Jensen came around to score when Cortes was caught stealing.

William & Mary pushed across a run in the eight on a sacrifice fly but Robinett finished strong to earn the save.

Army will conclude its three-game series with William & Mary at 3 p.m. at Plumeri Park in the second game of the doubleheader.
