BRONX, N.Y. - Four Black Knight runners finished in the Top 10 as the Army men's cross country team closed out its 2005 campaign by winning the University division race Saturday at the IC4A Championships. Army bested the 22-team field to win the team title for the second time in three years.
Faraz Bala, who has been a stalwart in the Army lineup all season long, turned in another spectacular performance in the team's final competition of the year. The junior, who placed third overall, toured Van Cortlandt Park's five-mile course in a time of 25 minutes, 45 seconds.
Juniors Dan O'Loughlin and Doug Pelletier and sophomore John Mickowski joined Bala in the Top 10 as Army dominated the competition.
O'Loughlin clocked a time of 25:59 to take sixth place, while Pelletier (26:14) and Mickowski (26:21) finished ninth and 10th, respectively.
Sophomore Robert Squier was the fifth Army runner to cross the finish line. The Montrose, Pa., native broke the tape in 26:45 to place 19th.
The Black Knights have seen great success at the IC4A Championships in recent years. Army won the event in 2003 and finished runner-up last season.
