NEW ORLEANS The Army men’s cross country team was ranked 11th in the northeast region in the preseason edition of the NCAA Division I Regional Rankings, as announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
The Black Knights are coming off of a loss to Cornell, ranked fifth in the same poll, in the annual Army-Cornell dual meet on Friday, Sept. 12 at the West Point Golf Course. Senior Jonathan Anderson led the way for the Black Knights, finishing seventh.
In 2007, the Army men placed 12th at the NCAA Division I Northeast Regional Championships. They were unranked in the preseason poll but were ranked for the rest of the season.
Regional representatives coordinate the voting in their own region for the poll with input from the coaches. Iona took the top spot in the northeast region.
The Black Knights will take next weekend off before traveling to Minneapolis, Minn. for the Roy Griak Invitational at the University of Minnesota on Saturday, Sept. 27, 2008.
