Joining Beth Bellinger on the sidelines in 2002 is former teammate and co-captain, Katie Konkel. Like her coaching counterpart, Konkel produced four phenomenal years for the Black Knights as both a setter and defensive specialist.

During her final season with the club, Konkel was consistently ranked among the national leaders in service aces, delivering a total of 61. Her average of 0.69 service aces per game was good enough for second place in the Patriot League and 11th in the nation. Competing in all 89 games, Konkel finished her career with a grand total of 404 games played, among the most in Army history.

As a junior, Konkel's performance in the final three matches of the season iced a playoff berth for the Black Knights. In the season finale versus Holy Cross, Konkel served five straight points in Army's triumphant four-game match versus the Crusasders.

The Brookfield, Wis., native earned a degree in Human/Regional Geography from the Academy in 2002. After finishing her repsonsibilities this semester as a graduate assistant, the 2nd Lt. will head off to Fort Huachuca, Ariz., for Officer Basic Course before going on a one year assignment to Korea.

Prior to attending West Point, Konkel took her team at Divine Savior Holy Angels High School to a Top-20 national ranking and a state-semifinal match her junior year. Unfortunately, she was unable to repeat this successful run after undergoing surgery on her ACL during her senior campaign.
