NEW ORLEANS, La. – Rising sophomore distance runner Lisa Junta and the Army men’s track and field team were recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) this week as Division I All-Academic honorees. Junta was one of 676 individual female recipients while the Black Knights were among 85 men’s programs tabbed.

To qualify individually for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds). Teams qualify for the honor with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.

Junta, who was also named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll last month, competed in the 10,000-meter run national semifinal at the NCAA East Region in Jacksonville, Fla. Junta clinched her spot at the NCAAs when she became Army’s first ECAC Champion on the track when she captured the 10,000m crown with the region’s 48th-fastest time of 2012. In the classroom, the Springfield, Va., native totaled a 4.074 GPA during her first year at the Academy.

The Army men tallied a 3.06 cumulative GPA to be named an All-Academic team for the third consecutive year.

The University of Florida, which captured both the indoor and outdoor NCAA team titles, was named the Scholar Team of the Year with a 3.06 GPA. For the full list of individual honorees, click here. For all team award recipients, click here.
