BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – Rising sophomores Jennifer Comfort and Lisa Junta competed at the USA Junior Outdoor Track Championships on Friday and Saturday at Indiana University’s Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex. Aiming for spots on the American national team for this summer’s World Games, both Black Knights came up short.

Despite not advancing, Comfort recorded yet another time that ranks among the top-10 in Army history. The sophomore solidified her spot at No. 3 on the Academy’s 800-meter list with her 12th-place time of 2:12.10. The top eight of the 21-person field advanced to Saturday’s finals. Ajee Wilson of the Juventus Track Club won the preliminary round with a time of 2:08.00.

Competing in the 5,000-meter run, Junta placed ninth of 15 with a time of 17:40.60. The 5,000m was a finals-only event. Oregon’s Allison Woodward won the race by crossing the line in 16:15.27.

Junta and Comfort were the first Black Knights since 2010 to qualify for the Junior Nationals and the first to compete since 2006. Junta’s ninth-place finish is the best by an Army runner since John Mickowski earned third-place honors in the 1,500m at the 2005 meet.
