WEST POINT, N.Y.  – Senior Nick Snoad was named the Army Athletic Association Athlete of the Week on Monday following a historical performance at the Dick Shea Open. The tri-captain climbed up the program’s top-10 list in the hammer throw by recording the best toss since Gerald Ingalls established an Academy record in 1996.

Snoad won the event with a throw of 62.80 meters to rank second all-time at West Point. In addition to recording the best distance in the Patriot League this season, he is the only thrower in the conference to eclipse 60 meters and currently stands at No. 3 among all hammer throwers in the NCAA East Region.

The Gahanna, Ohio, native becomes the first Army thrower since Feb. 23, 2004, to be named the AAA Athlete of the week. Sara Fields (USMA 2004) earned the recognition after setting both Army and Patriot League records in the shot put at the 2004 indoor conference meet.

The AAA honor is the third of the season for the Army track and field program after sophomore Lisa Junta was tabbed twice during the indoor campaign. Junta was recognized on Feb. 18 and March 4. Snoad is the first men’s track and field honoree since Tom Wagner (USMA 2012) earned the certificate on May 7, 2012.
