TAMPA, Fla. – Day 4 has come and gone on Army track & field’s spring break training trip to Florida as we’ve reached the halfway point. Today was rather quiet with the various event groups getting in multiple workouts as well as a little sightseeing around Tampa.
Arriving at USF’s track this morning at 8:30 was a little different than days past – it was crowded! Along with Armym, there were athletes from Alabama, Long Island University, USF and Marquette. Word is, there are going to be over 20 schools competing at Friday’s meet.
After the track workout I headed over to the YMCA with the sprinters for a lift. The Tampa YMCA was like no other YMCA I had ever seen – it was huge and immaculate. The cadets got in a solid lift with Coach Ruff before we scattered for lunch at 1:15. Somehow Coach Ruff managed to park in the one plaza in Tampa which didn’t have a restaurant in it, so we all hiked around the plaza to various spots to find grub.
Other event groups enjoyed yet another sunny day by making their way to nearby Busch Gardens, with other cadets just hanging by the pool before an afternoon study hall.
The coaches and staff headed to Lee Roy Selmon’s for dinner while everyone else gathered in their respective vans for their own restaurants of choice.
On deck for tomorrow, along with practice, is another much-anticipated group event when we all load in the vans for MacDill Air Force Base where we’ll go through a briefing with SOCOM (Special Operations Command). Check back then to see what we’ve learned!
