Track Closes Out Successful Run At The Armory

NEW YORK CITY, N.Y. - The Army men's and women's indoor track and field teams closed out a successful run at The Army Collegiate Invitational in New York City Saturday evening collecting a few postseason bids in their final regular-season meet.

In Saturday's competition for the women, sophomore distance runner Madison Hill met the ECAC postseason qualifying standard in the 5000-meter run with a time of 17:32.21 in finishing 11th out of 27 competitors.

The men had a pair of junior runners post IC4A qualifying times. Distance runner Trevor Lafontaine had his ticket punched to the postseason in the 5000-meter run after finishing 10th with a time of 14:42.13.

Middle distance competitor Clyde Wilson, who previously qualified for the IC4As in the 800 meter run, turned in a season-best 1:51.66 in finishing ninth that event. He is ranked seventh on Army's top-10 list with a 1:51.31 career clocking that he set last winter at the IC4As.

Posting solid performances the final day for the women was junior distance runner Lisa Junta, along with a pair of freshmen weight throws. Junta clocked a time of 5:13.01 in the mile run placing 30th among 55 runners. Freshmen Acacia Larsen and Rebecca Cousens tossed the 20-lb weight 45 feet, 3 ½ inches and 41-01 3/4, respectively.

Also authoring noteworthy showings for the men was middle distance runner Alex Duffy along with field event performances by junior Ernest Holland, sophomore Christian Mapes and freshman Nicholas Beavers.

Duffy finished ninth among a field of 33 runners in the one-mile run (4:18.69), Holland was 10th in the high jump (6-03 ¼), Mapes cleared 14-16 in the pole vault and Beavers leaped 42- 4 ¼ in the triple jump.

The men's and women's teams will be idle next week as they prepare for the Patriot League Championships being hosted by Bucknell in Lewisburg, Pa., Feb. 20-22.
